Things were going downhill. I was working overnights at a gas station and staying with friends who were raising small kids. I never slept. I felt like a failure and I had no one to turn to other than my Dobro. "Save" came to me like the first real monsoon after a relentless summer. I cried after I sang it for the first time. I went into the garage with a single microphone and started recording these songs for no other reason than to save myself.
